stack it bright

interaction & light

illuminating the familiar gesture of stacking

Interactions between humans and objects are intuitive when they are based on „cultural“ actions that we have known and internalized since childhood. One of these is stacking – such as stacking building blocks, pebbles by a lake, or small towers made of anything within reach. It is precisely this familiar gesture that makes the interface of this light object self-explanatory. When a stone is placed on top, the light slowly begins to emerge and gently travels upward. A total of four sandstones sequentially activate four brightness levels. By removing the stones, the light softly fades back down.

The design of the lamp is deliberately kept clean and minimalist. The formal approach represents an architectural composition based on cubic shapes. The strict, precise form of the lamp meets the organic structure of the cube-like sandstones. Inspired by nature, the color concept is derived directly from the sandstone itself. The textured base and the matte shade stand in a positive contrast to the natural, raw texture of the stones. Thus, color, proportion, and rhythm hold everything together, creating a compelling tension that emphasizes the playfulness of stacking while lending the object its unique presence.
